The Hideous Host

Today we eat with Christ at the house of Simon. He is a Pharisee who has invited Jesus to a meal as the guest speaker/teacher. Jesus does teach but it’s a different lesson than Simon must have anticipated. A woman enters the meal, weeping, drying Jesus’ feet with her hair and anointing Jesus with perfume. While Simon in contrast has given Jesus no such courtesies. The opportunity presents itself for the meal-time-teacher to show how love is the characteristic he looks for in followers.
