Introduction to Prayer
We begin the new year with a mini-series on prayer. The goal of this series is not to learn more about the subject of prayer, but to learn how to become better praying subjects. In Romans chapter eight Paul summarizes that need when he says, “for we do not know how to pray as we should” (Rom. 8:26)
Few people feel fully accomplished in their prayer life. In fact according to a survey during our assembly the results are rather telling. 8% identified their prayer lives as non-existent or a failure, while only 4% were satisfied and felt their prayer lives were adequate. A full 88% said their prayer lives were lacking and needing improvement. Thus the objective of improving in prayer seems to be almost universal.
So, like the disciples we are asking and examining Scripture in response to our need… “Lord teach us to pray.” (Lk. 11:1)
