How Paul Will Achieve His Desires
In the third chapter of Philippians Paul begins by issuing a warning about those who may appear spiritual but really are not. He then gives three identifying characteristics of those who truly are followers of Christ: 1) they worship by the Spirit, 2) only boast in Christ, and 3) put no confidence in the flesh.
He then begins to travel down a very personal road. He shares qualities he possesses that could provide him fleshly confidence. However, he considers them garbage in order to “gain” Christ.
What does he mean by gaining Christ? He answers: to know Him, to experience the power of His resurrection, to share in His sufferings, and to be conformed to His death.
We now find that Paul will get very specific concerning the strategies by which he will accomplish those desires. This lesson will outline Paul’s three-fold plan to obtain his stated objectives.
