Just One Thing…
Thus far in the first chapter of Philippians we have seen that Paul has encouraged a life of joy by considering the connection of believers within their spiritual community. All that is experienced within mutual fellowship of the gospel brings joy to the daily experiences of life.
Next he has introduced the truth that even adversity can be faced with a spirit of joy. He uses himself as an illustration of this reality. His imprisonment, those seeking to do him personal harm, and even death itself possess no power to reduce his joyful experience within Jesus.
As Paul ends the first chapter he is going to wrap up his introduction to joyful living by pressed the point to a single issue… “just one thing.” What is the “one thing” Paul finds necessary to a life of purpose, contentment, and joy? In this lesson we begin to look at Paul’s answer to that question.
