Paul begins his letter to the Philippians by first identifying himself and Timothy as “slaves” of Christ Jesus. Next we find his salutation addressing the Christians in Philippi as “saints.” They have been made thus by God and through the atonement of Jesus’ life. Yet, they are to be about the task of becoming more “holy” through their growth and sanctification.
